This is a sculpture made of a Texas
elm, hard maple and, aluminum dowels. It is a hanging mobile piece
from the Pedestrian Small People Series. Skinny Blonde’s body
is made from a 24” long debarked, sanded, oiled and waxed
Texas Elm branch. Jutting off of her body to one side about 4 inches
from the top is a long branch or arm and a few jutting to the other
side is another branch or arm. The main branch then continues down
roughly a foot where is splits into two more branches or legs. At
the end of the legs and arms are a few more small branches like
fingers and toes. Her head is made of a piece of maple 5 inch tall,
20 inch long, 1.5 inch thick. The head is connected to the body
with a polished one-quarter inch aluminum rod. The maple, 5 inches
in height at the neck and tapers on a centerline, narrowing to 2
inches. A top view will show this hair to be cut in a series of
7 waves. This waiving wood is accentuated by the rapidly changing
grain pattern on the face of the piece of maple.
