This is a small tabletop piece made
of fourteen pieces of highly finished wood. The base of this sculpture
is a two-inch thick, five and one half inch wide, seven-inch long
mesquite block. The block is square except for one end having the
rough original surface. A sixteen-inch tall by one-inch diameter
pecan stick is positioned near the center which is also the center
of the annual ring pattern of the block. This light blonde vertical
stick has many tiny dark brown spots. At three inches from the top
the stick has a branch that turns ninety degrees away then curves
back down extending out past and slightly below the base but does
not touch the ground. Drilled in the center of the top of the stick
is a one half-inch dowel. The dowel shows red for one and one half
inch before it holds a thick vertical rectangular block that is
positioned in plane with the limb and its leg branch. The rectangular
block is of dark red black Wenge one and one half inch thick, seven
inches tall and, five inches wide. The block shows all the variations
of Wenge color, with dark black grain and dark red and dark orange.
Of the six surfaces one of each size is sanded very smooth and the
other still has sawmill marks but, those marks have all been polished
to let the grain pattern show through. The leg that turns down has
nine cubes mounted on blue one eight-inch dowels that follow the
outside of the curve. They are positioned one half inch from, parallel
and in a straight line down the center of the branch. At the end
of the curved branch there is a three quarter square by one-inch
long block. This block is gilded in 23-karat gold.
