Wood and Aluminum June to October 2003 These pieces all-starting with 2 - 12inch wood cubes are combined with solid aluminum parts. I started with a 15" cubes that dried for several years. As wood dries it shrinks and changes shape. The aluminum is all solid 3" thick and the bars are ½ inch round. All the metal parts were cut on Computer Numeric Controlled machinery (CNC). The aluminum is assembled with 10/32-machine all-thread. A jig made that aligns the bars with the wood and a 40-ton press pushes all 18 bars in simultaneously. For a more detailed description of this sculpture please contact hank@chronicart.net.
