Mounted tall on a granite base is
a thirty sixty-degree right triangle of golden quarter sawn white
oak. The one and three quarter inch thick piece stands up thirteen
inches high. On the hypotenuse side there is a half pipe groove
cut on the slope down to the granite base. The iridescent stripping
breaks up the slant of the straight-grained oak, which is common
in quarter-sawn wood. Laid inside the grove is a long one half-inch
diameter piece of dark black brown Wenge with golden brown grain
pattern. Viewing from the side, the Wenge is almost hidden lying
down inside the groove. This dark piece is in great contrast to
the piece with which it is connected. As it starts from the granite
base and moves up the groove it waves slightly and lifts away from
the oak, as it appears to fly off the top and away from the mountain.
