This is one of my favorite examples of a tree that called to me. Driving down a country road I felt a need to turn around and return to a spot 2 miles back with an opening in the woods. I came to that spot that seemed to invite me into the woods. I walked back several hundred feet and came upon a tree that had been eaten by bugs for years. What was left was the heart of the loblolly pine, to hard for anything to eat. Originally this piece was about 30 inches in diameter, shown by the smooth sections on the ends of the branches, now reduced in the center to only 8". Four legs each rest on a separate steel leg of the base. Each leg is a different height because I did not want to remove the smooth section that shows the original diameter. Disguised has a total of two & half gallons of paint. It's kind of like coral.
